Write page titles and descriptions people want to click

1 hrImpact: highEffort: low

Find pages Google shows often but people rarely click, and rewrite their page title and description (the blue headline and the short text under it in search results).

If you already appear but get skipped, a better title can bring more visitors without ranking any higher. It is one of the quickest improvements in search.

How to do it

  1. 1
    Find the pages
In Search Console Performance, open the Pages tab and look for pages with many impressions and a low click-through rate.
  2. 2
    See what the searcher wants
Check the searches that bring each page up. Write a title that matches them and says why your page is the answer.
  3. 3
    Rewrite title and description
Title: about 50–60 characters, main phrase near the start, business name at the end. Description: one or two sentences, about 150 characters, with a reason to click.
  4. 4
    Check again in 4 weeks
Compare the click-through rate before and after.

How you will know it is done

Your most-shown, least-clicked pages have new titles and descriptions, with a date to measure the change.
