Match what Google shows for your main searches

1 hrImpact: highEffort: low

Search your main phrases and look at what fills page one: guides, lists, videos, maps, product pages. Make sure your page is the kind of page Google shows for that search.

Google shows what people want for each search. If page one is all step-by-step guides and yours is a sales page, it will struggle to rank however good it is.

How to do it

  1. 1
    Search your 5 main phrases
Use a private window so your own history doesn’t change the results.
  2. 2
    Note the type of result
Guides, comparison lists, local map results, videos, product pages, questions.
  3. 3
    Compare with your page
Is your page the same kind of thing? Does it cover what the top results cover?
  4. 4
    Adjust or add
Change the page’s format, or write the missing kind of page and link the two.
