Improve the pages that almost reach page one of Google

2 hrImpact: criticalEffort: medium

Find searches where your page sits just off or at the bottom of page one (average position 8 to 20) and improve those pages first.

Google already sees these pages as relevant. Moving from position 12 to position 5 can multiply visits, and it’s usually easier than ranking a brand-new page.

How to do it

  1. 1
    Filter for positions 8–20
In Search Console Performance, add a Position filter or export and sort the Queries list.
  2. 2
Match each search to its page
Click a query, then the Pages tab to see which page ranks.
  3. 3
Make that page the best answer
Add what’s missing compared with the pages above you: fuller answers, clearer headings, photos, prices, a short FAQ. Put the phrase in the title and main heading naturally.
  4. 4
Link to it from your other pages
Add links from related pages on your site using words that describe it.
