Find pages that got no searches and no visitors in the last year, then improve them, merge them into a related page, or retire them with a redirect.

Dozens of thin, unused pages make a site look weaker, not bigger, and spread Google’s attention thin. Fewer, better pages usually rank better.

How to do it

List pages with no impressions

Compare your sitemap with Search Console’s Pages report for the last 12 months.

Decide for each page

Important to customers: improve it. Overlaps another page: merge. Out of date or pointless: retire.

Redirect anything removed

Send retired or merged addresses to the closest useful page with a permanent (301) redirect.

Update your links and sitemap

Remove links to retired pages and keep the sitemap current.

Don’t remove pages that customers use directly (terms, contact, booking) just because nobody searches for them.
Check for links from other websites before retiring a page, and always redirect.

Every unused page has been improved, merged or retired with a redirect.
