Set up Google Business Profile messaging auto-replies

10 minutes. Impact: medium Effort: low

Setting up automatic replies for the messaging feature on your profile — a friendly greeting that fires instantly when someone messages you, so no one is met with silence.

If messaging is on, a customer expects a quick response. An auto-reply buys you time, sets expectations, and keeps a hot lead warm instead of letting them bounce to a competitor while you're on a job.

How to do it

  1. 1
    Open the messaging settings
In the Business Profile messaging area, find the welcome/auto-reply setting.
  2. 2
    Write a warm, useful greeting
Acknowledge them, set a response-time expectation, optionally ask a qualifying question: 'Thanks for messaging [Business]! We usually reply within an hour. What can we help with?'
  3. 3
    Keep it human, not robotic
Avoid a cold 'Your message has been received.' A warm tone keeps the lead engaged.
  4. 4
Make sure real replies still follow
The auto-reply is a bridge, not a substitute — confirm you still get notified and respond personally soon after.

Common mistakes

How you'll know it's done

Anyone who messages you gets an instant, warm auto-reply that sets expectations, and you reliably follow up in person.
