Responding to every review — positive and negative — on your Business Profile, ideally within 24 hours. A short, genuine reply to each.

Google explicitly says responding to reviews improves local ranking, and it's a visible trust signal: prospects read how you handle feedback, especially the negative. A thoughtful reply to a bad review often wins more trust than the review lost.

How to do it

    Turn on review notifications
    In the Business Profile, enable alerts so you know the moment a review lands. Aim to reply within 24 hours.

    Thank every positive review specifically
    A quick, warm, specific reply ('Thanks Maria — glad the new cedar fence turned out great!') — not copy-paste. Working in the service/location naturally is a bonus.

    Handle negatives calmly and constructively
    Stay professional, never defensive. Acknowledge, apologize if warranted, move it offline ('I'd like to make this right — please call us at…'). Future customers are reading your response, not just the complaint.

    Make it a routine
    Build a habit (or assign someone) to check and respond daily, so nothing sits unanswered.
