Build 15 consistent local citations

2–3 hours. Impact: critical Effort: medium

Building consistent local citations — listings of your business Name, Address, and Phone on directories, all matching exactly. The target is roughly 15 quality citations.

Citations are how Google corroborates your business is real and where you claim. A base of consistent citations on trusted directories strengthens local ranking; consistency matters more than raw count. Fifteen good ones beat fifty sloppy ones.

How to do it

  1. 1
    Start with the universal directories
The ones that matter everywhere: Google Business Profile, Bing Places, Apple Maps, Yelp, Facebook, and data aggregators. Get your exact NAP on each.
  2. 2
    Add industry and local directories
Your trade's main association directory, local chamber of commerce, reputable regional directories. Relevance beats volume.
  3. 3
    Keep NAP identical everywhere
Use your one canonical Name/Address/Phone format on every listing. Inconsistency cancels the benefit.
  4. 4
    Skip the spam services
Avoid 'submit to 500 directories' offers — they create junk listings that can hurt more than help. Hand-pick trusted ones.
