See every website that links to you right now

30 minImpact: criticalEffort: low

Before chasing new links, find out which websites already link to you. Google Search Console shows this for free, and it is the most reliable list you can get without paying for a link tool.

You can’t grow what you haven’t counted. The number that matters is how many different websites link to you (referring domains), not the raw number of links: one site can link to you a thousand times from its footer.

How to do it

  1. 1
    Open the Links report
In Google Search Console choose your site, then Links in the left menu. If your site isn’t in Search Console yet, add and verify it first (Google Search mission).
  2. 2
    Export Top linking sites
Under External links → Top linking sites, click More, then Export. You get a spreadsheet of every website linking to you and how many links each sends.
  3. 3
    Count websites, not links
The number of rows is your referring-domain count. Write it down with today’s date: it is the baseline every later backlink mission is measured against.
  4. 4
    Note your top linked pages
Top linked pages shows which of your pages other sites point to. Those pages carry the most weight; keep them live and never delete them without a redirect.

Common mistakes

How you will know it is done

You have an exported list of the websites linking to you, and a dated count of referring domains to measure progress against.

Track this in your hive

Mark it complete once you have genuinely done it — H.I.V.E. tracks your full strategy progress in one place.
