Fix links that point to old or missing pages on your site

Find links from other websites that point to pages on your site that no longer exist, and send each old address to the right current page with a permanent (301) redirect.

A link to a missing page lands the visitor on an error and passes no value to your site. Redirecting it recovers a link you already earned, without asking anyone for anything.

How to do it

   Find the broken targets

   In Search Console open Links → Top linked pages and look for addresses that no longer work, or check Pages → Not found (404) for addresses other sites still use.

   Choose the best current page for each

   Pick the page that now covers the same thing. Only use your homepage when nothing closer exists.

   Add permanent redirects

   Set a 301 redirect from each old address to its new page, in your website settings, your host, or Cloudflare (Rules → Redirect Rules). The Site Bee or Cloudflare Bee can do this for you.

   Test each old address

   Open each old address in a private window and make sure it lands on the new page in one step.
