Check each month that your links are real and still there

Once a month, compare the websites linking to you with last month’s list: new websites, lost websites, and links that now point to a missing page.

Links come and go quietly. A monthly check catches lost links while they can still be recovered, and shows which kind of link is actually growing.

How to do it

Export Top linking sites again

Same report as the first backlink mission, same source, so the numbers compare fairly.

Compare with last month

Note websites that are new and websites that disappeared.

Recover what you can

A lost link from a page that moved can often be fixed with a redirect on your side or a short note to the site owner.

Record the trend

Write down the referring-domain count. Rising slowly is healthy; a sudden jump of unknown sites is worth a look.

Short-term drops are normal while Google re-reads the web; look at the trend over several months.
A spike of low-quality links you didn’t build is usually ignored by Google. Don’t panic, and don’t use the disavow tool unless Google has warned you.
