Set up Google Search Console security alerts

15 min if not already set up Impact: medium Effort: medium ✓ Manual completion

Google Search Console security alerts notify you directly if Google detects your site has been compromised, is distributing malware, or has been flagged for other security issues, often catching a compromise faster than you would notice it yourself.

Google's crawlers see your site constantly and can detect certain compromises, like injected malicious code or a hacked page, that might otherwise go unnoticed for a long time.

How to do it

  1. 1
Confirm your site is verified in Search Console
A prerequisite for receiving any alerts at all.
  2. 2
    Check your notification settings
Confirm security issue alerts are enabled and going to an email you actually monitor.
  3. 3
Review the Security Issues report periodically
Even without a specific alert, a periodic manual check is good practice.
  4. 4
Act immediately on any real alert
A security issue flagged here often means active compromise requiring prompt response.
