Creating and submitting an XML sitemap gives Google a direct, complete list of every page you want indexed, submitted proactively through Search Console rather than waiting for organic discovery — foundational technical SEO that many otherwise-solid sites still skip or let go stale.

Without an actively submitted sitemap, Google has to find your pages purely by following links, which is slower and can miss pages with few internal links pointing to them.
